
BAIDOA, Somalia (Horn Post) — Southwest State of Somalia leader Sheikh Adan Mohamed Nur (Madobe) has expressed his appreciation to members of the Southwest State Parliament after lawmakers overwhelmingly approved his newly appointed Council of Ministers, paving the way for the regional government to accelerate its governance and development agenda.
According to a statement issued by the Presidency of Southwest State in Baidoa, the approval took place during the First Session, Fifth Sitting of the Southwest State Parliament on July 16, 2026.
During the parliamentary session, Sheikh Adan formally requested lawmakers to endorse and swear in the newly appointed cabinet members, whom he recently nominated to serve in his administration.
The Southwest State House of Representatives approved the cabinet by a majority vote, after which the ministers were officially sworn into office by the Chief Justice of the Southwest State Supreme Court, Dr. Ahmed Ali Muse.
Following the oath-taking ceremony, the new ministers pledged to carry out their constitutional responsibilities with integrity, transparency, accountability, and dedication, while working to serve the people of Southwest State and advance the region’s development priorities.
Leader Calls for Faster Public Service Delivery and Stronger Governance
Addressing the newly confirmed cabinet, Sheikh Adan congratulated the ministers on their appointments and urged them to focus on delivering tangible results for citizens.
He called on the cabinet to prioritize:
Improving public service delivery;
Strengthening security and stability;
Promoting economic development and investment;
Enhancing good governance and institutional accountability; and
Accelerating the implementation of the Southwest State government’s development programs.
The regional leader emphasized that citizens expect the new administration to work efficiently and collaboratively to improve governance and address key socio-economic challenges facing Southwest State.
Emphasis on Unity, Transparency and Accountability
Sheikh Adan also stressed that the success of the new government would depend on close cooperation among ministers, transparent leadership, and a strong culture of accountability.
He said the Council of Ministers is expected to work collectively to fulfill the government’s objectives, strengthen public institutions, and deliver effective services across Southwest State.
According to the presidency, the cabinet’s confirmation marks an important step toward reinforcing the regional administration and improving coordination across government ministries.

Following the parliamentary vote, Sheikh Adan thanked the Speaker and members of the Southwest State Parliament for their support in approving the new cabinet.
He said swift endorsement would enable the government to move forward with implementing its priorities without delay and help accelerate the work of the regional administration.
The cabinet approval comes as Southwest State seeks to strengthen governance, improve security, expand economic opportunities, and deliver essential public services across the region.
