BRUSSELS — (Horn Post) Somalia has welcomed a decision by the Organization of African, Caribbean and Pacific States (OACPS) Council of Ministers to grant the country a full waiver of its outstanding membership arrears totaling €591,707.17, describing the move as a strong demonstration of solidarity and confidence in Somalia’s renewed engagement with the international organization.
In a statement issued on behalf of the Federal Republic of Somalia, the government expressed its sincere appreciation to the OACPS Council of Ministers for approving the complete cancellation of the outstanding dues.
“The decision reflects the enduring spirit of solidarity, partnership, and shared responsibility that defines the OACPS family,” the statement said.
The Somali government emphasized that the waiver marks an important step in strengthening its relationship with the 79-member organization, which promotes political dialogue, sustainable development, trade, and cooperation among countries in Africa, the Caribbean, and the Pacific.
Somalia Pledges to Meet Future Commitments
Following the decision, Somalia reaffirmed its commitment to fulfilling all future financial obligations to the organization and to playing an active role in advancing the OACPS agenda.
“Somalia remains fully committed to meeting its future obligations and contributing actively to our common goals,” the government said, while thanking fellow member states for their continued trust and support.
Officials noted that the decision will enable Somalia to participate more effectively in OACPS programs and strengthen cooperation on issues including economic development, regional integration, climate resilience, trade, and sustainable growth.
Sign of International Confidence
The waiver is viewed as another indication of Somalia’s growing international engagement following recent economic and institutional reforms. It also reflects continued support from OACPS member states for Somalia’s efforts to rebuild institutions, strengthen governance, and expand its participation in multilateral organizations.
The Somalian government concluded by expressing deep gratitude to all OACPS member countries for their solidarity and reaffirmed its determination to work closely with partners to achieve shared development objectives.
