Hargeisa, (Hornpost) A high-level policy dialogue exploring Somaliland’s role in regional security, trade, and economic integration was held today in Hargeisa, bringing together diplomats, researchers, and policy experts.
The forum, jointly organized by the Somaliland Institute of Diplomacy and International Affairs (SIDI) and the Konrad-Adenauer-Stiftung (KAS), focused on how Somaliland can leverage its strategic location and stable political environment to contribute to peace and prosperity in the Horn of Africa.
Officially opening the event, Mohamed Abdirahman Hassan, the Director General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, underscored Somaliland’s growing importance in maritime security, regional trade corridors, and cross-border cooperation.
Participants — including academics, economists, and security analysts — discussed how closer coordination between regional governments and international institutions can strengthen peacebuilding and unlock new trade and investment opportunities.
Speakers highlighted the need for a coherent regional policy that supports joint efforts against security threats while enhancing economic connectivity through ports, logistics, and infrastructure.
The dialogue forms part of ongoing efforts to deepen understanding of Somaliland’s foreign policy priorities and its potential to play a constructive role in regional stability and economic growth.
