HARGEISA (Horn post) Somaliland authorities have reportedly suspended Air Djibouti flights to its territory, a move reflecting growing diplomatic tensions in the region.
The affected flights, which operated four times a week between Djibouti City and Hargeisa, have been halted amid escalating friction following Somaliland’s recent recognition of Israel.
While the Somaliland government has not yet issued an official statement, reports confirmed by trusted Somaliland media outlets indicate the grounding is in effect.
Djibouti has strongly opposed Somaliland’s move and aligned itself with Somalia and other countries critical of the recognition.
The suspension highlights the increasing strain between the neighboring countries, with potential impacts on trade, travel, and cross-border business.
While Somaliland maintains that recognition of Israel aligns with its strategic and economic interests, Djibouti has reportedly voiced concerns over regional stability and diplomatic solidarity with Somalia.
Analysts warn the disruption of flights could further complicate relations in the Horn of Africa and affect bilateral cooperation and mobility in the region.
