Hargeisa, January 4, 2026 (Horn Post) – The Government of the Republic of Somaliland has formally declared its alignment with the United States in support of calibrated international action aimed at restoring constitutional order, democratic legitimacy, and the rule of law in Venezuela.
In a press statement issued on Sunday by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Somaliland said it supports responsible, U.S.-led engagement carried out in coordination with regional and multilateral partners to address the ongoing political and humanitarian crisis in the South American nation.
The statement emphasized that such international efforts should be grounded in internationally accepted norms, collective security principles, and respect for state sovereignty, while ensuring accountability and the protection of human rights.
According to the ministry, Somaliland believes that coordinated international action can help alleviate humanitarian suffering in Venezuela, counter transnational criminal networks, and pave the way for a peaceful, Venezuelan-led political transition.
The government further underlined that any transition process must be led by the Venezuelan people themselves and anchored in constitutional order, democratic governance, and the rule of law.
The statement reflects Somaliland’s broader foreign policy stance of aligning with democratic partners and supporting international efforts that promote stability, lawful governance, and respect for human rights across the globe.
