
ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia (Horn post) A group of Somaliland doctors pursuing advanced specialist medical training in Ethiopia has completed a two-day educational exchange program aimed at strengthening medical expertise, healthcare innovation and bilateral cooperation between Somaliland and Ethiopia.
The knowledge-sharing visit was jointly organized by Ethiopia’s Ministry of Health and the Office of the Prime Minister of Ethiopia as part of ongoing efforts to deepen cooperation in healthcare development and professional capacity-building between the two sides.
During the two-day program, the Somaliland medical professionals visited several major development projects implemented by the Ethiopian government in Addis Ababa, where they observed large-scale public service infrastructure and ongoing national development initiatives.
The delegation also toured leading research institutions specializing in science, innovation and advanced technology, including Ethiopia’s Artificial Intelligence Center, where they were introduced to emerging technologies and their growing role in transforming modern healthcare systems.
In addition to visiting innovation centers, the Somaliland doctors explored historical and cultural landmarks reflecting Ethiopia’s rich heritage, gaining broader insight into the country’s development model and institutional progress.
At the conclusion of the program, Ethiopian officials hosted a high-level dinner reception attended by Ethiopia’s Minister of Health, Deputy Minister of Health and senior officials from the Prime Minister’s Office, who commended the Somaliland doctors for their commitment to professional excellence and their important role in strengthening healthcare services.
The Somaliland doctors said the visit provided valuable knowledge, practical experience and new perspectives that they believe will contribute significantly to improving healthcare services, expanding medical expertise and raising the quality of patient care in Somaliland.
The Ministry of Health Development of Somaliland welcomed the initiative, describing such opportunities as important platforms for strengthening the knowledge and experience of Somaliland’s healthcare professionals while deepening cooperation between Somaliland and Ethiopia in advancing healthcare development.
The exchange program highlights growing collaboration between Somaliland and Ethiopia, particularly in education, medical training, technology transfer and long-term healthcare sector development.
