AWBARE, Ethiopia — President Mustafe Mohamed Omar has inaugurated the newly completed Maax-Dugsiiye Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) College in Awbare, a major education project aimed at expanding skills development opportunities in Ethiopia’s Somali Region.
The modern college was constructed at a cost of 218 million Ethiopian birr and comprises 21 buildings spread across 25 hectares (250,000 square meters). The institution is designed to provide education and vocational training to up to 1,500 students annually in a range of technical and professional disciplines.
Speaking during the inauguration ceremony, President Mustafe urged local communities to take advantage of the educational opportunities offered by the college and to safeguard the significant public investment made in the region’s education sector.
Officials said the facility was built to deliver comprehensive academic and vocational training services, featuring student dormitories, dining facilities, classrooms, practical training workshops, administrative offices and other essential infrastructure.
The president also officially opened the college’s football field and recreational facilities, highlighting the importance of sports and student welfare as part of a modern learning environment. He noted that the recreational areas and sports grounds were developed in line with standards applied to similar higher-learning institutions.
The project is expected to strengthen workforce development efforts and improve access to technical education for young people across the region.
The inauguration ceremony concluded with regional officials participating in a tree-planting campaign within the college grounds, underscoring commitments to environmental sustainability and campus development.
