HARGEISA, Somaliland (HornPost) — Somaliland’s opposition KULMIYE Party has approved a series of organizational reforms aimed at strengthening its overseas branches, expanding diaspora engagement, and increasing support for Somaliland’s international recognition efforts.
The resolutions were adopted during a strategic conference held at the Mansoor Hotel in Hargeisa, bringing together the party’s leadership, senior officials, politicians, and representatives of KULMIYE branches from Europe and North America.
The conference was officially opened by KULMIYE Chairman and presidential candidate Mohamed Kahin Ahmed, who said the party was undertaking a comprehensive restructuring to improve coordination between its headquarters and overseas branches.
“The party’s constitution applies equally to everyone,” Mohamed Kahin Ahmed said, emphasizing that organizational reforms would be implemented in accordance with KULMIYE’s internal rules.
Highlighting the importance of Somaliland’s diaspora, the chairman described overseas supporters as a strategic asset for the party.
“We want the diaspora to become a resource that supports the party. As many have said, KULMIYE has been Somaliland’s political school, and we want the diaspora to continue playing that important role,” he said.
Following extensive discussions with diaspora representatives, the party adopted several key resolutions, which were announced by former Somaliland Minister of Posts and Technology Dr. Abdiweli Abdillahi Sufi.

- Strengthen and expand KULMIYE’s membership system both inside Somaliland and across the diaspora.
- Restructure the administrative and organizational framework of the party’s overseas branches.
- Accelerate outreach activities to promote KULMIYE’s policies and political program among Somaliland diaspora communities.
- Improve coordination between the party headquarters and overseas branches by establishing a dedicated diaspora liaison office.
- Increase the role of diaspora members in supporting the party’s development and organizational activities.
- Encourage overseas branches to play a greater role in Somaliland’s international recognition campaign.
- Establish a structured system to facilitate financial contributions from diaspora supporters.
The conference reflects KULMIYE’s efforts to modernize its organizational structure and strengthen engagement with Somaliland’s large diaspora community ahead of future political activities. The party views overseas supporters as an important source of political advocacy, expertise, and financial support, particularly in advancing Somaliland’s long-standing campaign for international recognition.
The resolutions also underscore the growing role of Somaliland’s diaspora in domestic politics, party organization, and international diplomacy, as political parties increasingly seek to mobilize global Somaliland communities in support of national development and foreign policy objectives.
