Somaliland President Irro Makes Historic Visit to Israeli Parliament as Diplomatic Ties with Israel Deepen.
JERUSALEM, Israel (Horn post) President of the Republic of Somaliland, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi Irro, accompanied by the First Lady and members of his official delegation, made a historic visit Tuesday to Israel’s Parliament, the Knesset, marking another significant milestone in Somaliland’s expanding diplomatic engagement with Israel.
President Irro was received with full state protocol, including a Guard of Honor ceremony, reflecting the high level of respect, recognition and diplomatic significance Israel attached to the Somaliland delegation and its leadership during the ongoing official visit.
During the visit, President Irro signed the Knesset Distinguished Visitors Book, leaving a message emphasizing the shared values of democracy, peace, stability, cooperation and friendship, while highlighting the growing relationship between Somaliland and Israel and the mutual benefits such ties could bring to both peoples.
Drawing on his own 12 years of experience as Speaker of Somaliland’s House of Representatives, President Irro underscored the importance of strengthening cooperation and institutional knowledge-sharing between the legislative bodies of Somaliland and Israel.
He said closer parliamentary cooperation between the two sides would play an important role in strengthening democratic institutions, advancing political party development and improving electoral systems in Somaliland.
President Irro also expressed gratitude to Knesset Speaker Amir Ohana, parliamentary leaders and members of Israel’s legislature for the warm welcome and high-level diplomatic reception extended to him and his delegation.
The visit to the Knesset is viewed as one of the most symbolic moments of Somaliland’s growing international outreach, reinforcing its expanding role in regional and global affairs while strengthening its diplomacy standing on the international stage.
The historic visit comes as Somaliland and Israel continue exploring broader strategic cooperation in diplomacy, trade, investment and institutional partnerships, signaling a rapidly deepening relationship between the two sides.
