The Somaliland Coast Guard has launched UK backed specialized training programs to strengthen maritime security coastal protection and institutional capacity

HARGEISA, Somaliland (Horn Post) — The Somaliland Coast Guard and Coastal Defense Force has officially launched a series of specialized training programs for its officers as part of a United Kingdom-supported initiative aimed at enhancing maritime security and institutional capacity.

The training program, organized with support from the British Office in Hargeisa, is designed to strengthen the professional skills and operational capabilities of Coast Guard personnel responsible for safeguarding Somaliland’s coastline.

The launch ceremony was jointly officiated by Admiral Ahmed Hure Hariye, Commander of the Somaliland Coast Guard and Coastal Defense Force, and Caitlin Sherrard, Head of the British Office in Hargeisa.

Officials said the initiative reflects the growing partnership between Somaliland and the United Kingdom in promoting maritime security, protecting coastal resources, and improving the operational effectiveness of security institutions.

The specialized courses are expected to enhance the Coast Guard’s readiness to address maritime challenges, including coastal surveillance, law enforcement, and maritime safety operations.

The United Kingdom has been a long-standing partner in supporting capacity-building initiatives across Somaliland’s security and governance sectors.
