DT Global, Somaliland Information Ministry Sign Strategic MoU on Cultural Preservation.

HARGEISA (Horn post) International development firm DT Global has signed a strategic Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Information, Culture and National Guidance of Somaliland (MoICNG) to strengthen the protection and preservation of cultural heritage in Somaliland.

 

The agreement, signed on Saturday, focuses on safeguarding and promoting cultural heritage, particularly intangible cultural heritage, as part of ongoing cooperation between the two institutions. DT Global is among the international organizations operating in Somaliland.

 

The project is funded by the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation (SDC) and will be jointly implemented by DT Global and the Ministry, specifically through the Ministry’s Culture Department.

 

According to officials, the initiative will support the Ministry in developing National Guidelines for the Protection of Intangible Cultural Heritage (ICH) in line with international standards and the conventions of UNESCO.

 

The project will also focus on institutional capacity building, strengthening the skills of Ministry staff and departmental leadership working in the Culture Department, the Radio Archive, the National Television Archive, as well as professionals and creatives involved in documenting, archiving, and preserving cultural heritage.

 

The MoU was jointly signed by Muse Askar Guled, Deputy Minister and Acting Minister of Information, Culture and National Guidance, and Mukhtaar Yuusuf Cismaan, Head of DT Global Projects in Somaliland.

 

The signing ceremony was attended by Abdisalam Mohamuud Du’ale, Director General of the Ministry, who described the agreement as a significant addition to the Ministry’s efforts in cultural preservation.

 

Other officials present included Abokor Addawe Rage (Buulla-xuubay), Director of the Culture Department; Fathia Ahmed Jimale, Deputy Director; Jama Awil Nuh, Director of Planning and Policy; Muna Ahmed Omar, C4P Project Manager; and Ahmed Adan, PSPH Project Manager.
