CAIRO, Egypt (Horn Post) — Egypt has officially inaugurated The Octagon, its new State Strategic Command Headquarters in the New Administrative Capital east of Cairo, marking one of the country’s most ambitious military modernization projects.
President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, accompanied by senior military commanders, presided over the inauguration ceremony, officially opening the sprawling defense complex that will serve as the central command hub for the Egyptian Armed Forces and the country’s national crisis management system.
The Octagon is designed to integrate military command, secure communications, intelligence coordination, and emergency response capabilities within a single high-security complex. Egyptian officials say the headquarters is equipped with advanced command-and-control technologies, artificial intelligence systems, and cyber-secure communications to improve operational readiness and decision-making.
Located in Egypt’s New Administrative Capital, the complex spans approximately 22,000 acres (about 90 square kilometers), making it one of the largest military headquarters in the world by land area. The facility consists of eight interconnected octagonal buildings surrounded by multiple strategic and logistical zones that support military operations and state institutions.
During the inauguration, El-Sisi described The Octagon as a symbol of Egypt’s stability, security, and commitment to strengthening its national defense capabilities. The ceremony included a military parade, aerial displays, the raising of the Armed Forces flag, and inspections of military equipment.
According to Egyptian officials, The Octagon is intended to function as more than a traditional military headquarters. It will serve as an integrated command center linking military leadership with key state institutions, allowing rapid coordination during national emergencies, security threats, and crises.
The headquarters forms part of Egypt’s broader plan to relocate major government institutions to the New Administrative Capital, a multi-billion-dollar development project aimed at modernizing the country’s administrative and security infrastructure.
