
JOWHAR, Somalia (Horn post) Somalia’s President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud on Thursday inaugurated major government facilities and development projects in Jowhar, the capital of Hirshabelle regional state, as part of a high-profile official visit aimed at strengthening governance and infrastructure development.
The president, who arrived in Jowhar with a delegation, was warmly received by Hirshabelle State President Ali Abdullahi Hussein, regional leaders, lawmakers and hundreds of residents.
During the visit, President Mohamud officially opened the newly constructed Hirshabelle Presidential Palace, along with modernized buildings for the Ministries of Education and Finance. He also inaugurated newly paved roads designed to improve urban mobility, connectivity and the overall appearance of the city.
Officials said the projects are part of broader efforts to expand government services, strengthen public administration and improve access to essential services for residents in Hirshabelle State.
President Mohamud praised regional authorities for their commitment to development and emphasized the importance of continued cooperation between federal and regional governments to accelerate infrastructure growth and service delivery.
In addition to the inaugurations, the president laid the foundation stone for the Hirshabelle Civil Service Commission headquarters and other government facilities expected to enhance administrative efficiency and institutional capacity.
Security was tightened across Jowhar during the visit, with large crowds gathering at Jowhar Airport, officially named Mohamed Dheere Airport, to welcome the president and his delegation.
