ANKARA – (Horn post) The Turkish Ministry of Defense has officially denied reports claiming that its S-400 air defense systems have been deployed to Somalia. The ministry clarified that the S-400 systems remain part of Turkey’s domestic defense infrastructure, with no plans to transfer them abroad.
The ministry reiterated that the S-400 air defense systems were procured in line with the operational needs of the Turkish Armed Forces and remain fully ready for duty.
“There is no planning for the use of the S-400 air defense systems in Somalia,” the statement said.
The ministry also addressed recurring speculation, noting that reports about S-400 deployments periodically appear in certain media outlets and on social media. Officials emphasized the importance of relying only on verified statements from the ministry.
In the same press release, Turkey outlined its broader engagement in Somalia, including:
- Supporting the restructuring and development of Somali security forces
- Assisting in counter-terrorism operations
- Protecting Somalia’s economic resources
- Safeguarding Turkey’s national interests in the region
The ministry stressed that Turkey’s involvement in Somalia is aimed at long-term security and stability, rather than deploying advanced weapons systems.
