President Irro Hosts Annual Iftar and State Dinner for Religious Scholars.
HARGEISA (Horn post) The President of the Republic of Somaliland, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi (Irro), on Wednesday evening hosted an annual Iftar and state dinner for religious scholars at the Presidential Palace, according to a statement issued by the Presidency.
The gathering, which is held annually during the holy month of Ramadan, brought together scholars from across the country and aimed to honor their role, facilitate dialogue, and encourage their continued contribution to society.
During the event, several prominent scholars delivered sermons and advisory remarks focusing on social responsibility, unity, and moral guidance. The scholars praised the President for consistently recognizing and prioritizing the role of religious leaders in national life.
The scholars also called on business leaders and philanthropists to support relief efforts for communities and livestock affected by the ongoing drought across the country.
In their remarks, the scholars reaffirmed their support for Somaliland’s statehood and national sovereignty, welcoming the recent diplomatic recognition granted by Israel to Somaliland.
Speaking at the event, the Minister of Religious Affairs and Endowments, Sheikh Abdillahi Bashe Dahir Jama, welcomed the scholars and commended them for their responsible and constructive role in society.
Closing the gathering, President Irro praised the scholars for their contribution to safeguarding national unity, peace, and stability, as well as their role in countering what he described as misinformation and hostile narratives following Israel’s recognition of Somaliland on December 26, 2025.
“I thank the religious scholars for how they responded, at the time recognition was secured, to those who were misusing religion and deliberately misinterpreting it,” said the President of the Republic of Somaliland.
