Hargeisa – (Hornpost) The Ministry of Justice has announced the release of Jamal Mohamed Yusuf, who had been incarcerated in Somaliland’s prison system since 2005.
Justice Minister Yonis Ahmed Yonis, accompanied by the Commander of the Somaliland Custodial Corps, Major General Ahmed Awale Yusuf (Libaax), oversaw the release at Mandhera Prison earlier today.
According to the Ministry, the release followed an extensive nationwide inspection of prisons conducted by Minister Yoonis, during which he reviewed long-standing cases and the conditions of inmates. The Minister played a central role in securing Jamaal’s freedom and formally handed him over to his family.
The newly released Jamaal Mohamed Yusuf expressed gratitude to all who contributed to his release, with special thanks to the Minister of Justice for his direct intervention.
Officials say the move reflects the government’s commitment to strengthening justice, improving oversight of correctional facilities, and safeguarding the rights of citizens.
