Returning former foreign minister is expected to fill vacant seat as party strengthens leadership ranks.
HARGEISA (Horn post) Chairman of Somaliland’s ruling Waddani Party, Hirsi Ali Haji Hassan, on Thursday welcomed former Foreign Minister Issa Kayd Mohamoud at the party’s headquarters in Hargeisa, following his recent return to the country.
Kayd is expected to assume a parliamentary seat vacated by Barkhad Jama Batun, who was recently appointed Minister of Information, Culture and Awareness.
The meeting, described as both a reception and a briefing session, was attended by senior officials including Batun, Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports Yusuf Tadhase, and the governor of Maroodi-Jeex region.
Hassan praised Kayd for his contributions to national development, social cohesion, and efforts to strengthen Somaliland’s statehood, highlighting his experience in both government and diplomacy.
Kayd, in turn, thanked the Waddani leadership for the warm reception and pledged to play an active role in advancing the party’s agenda and political activities.
The development signals a consolidation of experienced leadership within the Waddani Party as Somaliland’s political landscape continues to evolve.
