Addis Ababa (Horn post) Senior United States officials, including Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau and U.S. Africa Command (AFRICOM) Commander General Dagvin Anderson, have visited the Ethiopian Air Force Headquarters and the Black Lion Air Expo, underscoring growing security cooperation between the United States and Ethiopia.
According to diplomatic sources, the visit highlighted mutual U.S.–Ethiopia security objectives and reaffirmed a shared commitment to regional stability in the Horn of Africa, a region facing complex security challenges including conflict, extremism, and cross-border instability.
During the visit, the U.S. delegation engaged with senior Ethiopian defense officials, focusing on defense cooperation, military professionalism, and regional security coordination.
The Black Lion Air Expo provided a platform to showcase Ethiopia’s air force capabilities and modernization efforts, as well as opportunities for dialogue on aviation security and defense readiness.
U.S. officials emphasized the importance of partnerships with regional allies in promoting peace, countering security threats, and supporting stability across East Africa.
The engagement also reflected Washington’s continued interest in maintaining strategic security ties with Ethiopia, one of the region’s key military actors.
The visit comes at a time when the Horn of Africa remains strategically significant, with regional and international stakeholders seeking to prevent further instability and strengthen cooperative security frameworks.
