Trump: This is Iran’s last chance to make a good deal.

Trump

WASHINGTON/DUBAI — (Horn Post) U.S. President Donald Trump said Monday that negotiations between the United States and Iran are underway, describing the diplomatic effort as Tehran’s “last chance” to reach an agreement after he suspended planned military strikes against the country.

Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office today, US President Donald Trump said that talks with Iran are “going on right now,” stressing that “this is the last chance they have to make a good deal.”

Trump said the talks were “at the request of Iran.”

The comments come as Trump accused Iran’s political leadership of “hypocrisy” in a post on the social media site Truth Social.

However, Iran’s Foreign Ministry rejected Trump’s claims, stating that no direct negotiations are taking place with Washington and that no meetings with U.S. officials are currently planned. Iranian officials said their only ongoing diplomatic discussions are with Oman, focusing on navigation and shipping issues in the Strait of Hormuz.

The conflicting statements have created uncertainty over whether a new diplomatic process has actually begun, despite Trump’s insistence that discussions are already in progress.

Military Action Paused

Trump said he decided to postpone planned military action against Iran to allow room for diplomacy, warning that Tehran still faces significant consequences if negotiations fail.

Iran, meanwhile, maintains that Washington’s military posture remains the main obstacle to easing tensions and says reopening the Strait of Hormuz cannot be separated from the broader security situation.

Global Markets Watching Closely

The mixed signals from Washington and Tehran have drawn close attention from global energy markets because the Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world’s most important oil shipping routes.

Oil prices declined after Trump’s announcement that planned strikes had been called off, reflecting investor hopes that diplomacy could reduce the risk of further military escalation. However, uncertainty remains because both governments continue to present sharply different accounts of the current diplomatic situation.

Regional Implications

The latest developments come amid heightened tensions across the Middle East, where the security of the Strait of Hormuz continues to influence global energy supplies, maritime security, and international trade.

Whether the United States and Iran move toward direct negotiations—or remain locked in competing narratives—could significantly affect regional stability and the global economy in the coming weeks.
