Hargeisa (Hornpost) The spokesperson for the Opposition Kulmiye party strongly condemns the actions of the President of Somaliland, Mr. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdilaahi (Cirro), who publicly dared to buy shares in one of the banks being established in the country.
Read Press Release from Kulmiye part below:
The opposition party, Kulmiye – Party of Unity and Development, strongly condemns the constitutional violation committed by the President of Somaliland, Mr. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi (Cirro), who publicly declared his purchase of shares in one of the newly established banks in the country.
The President’s statement that he has acquired shares in the new Wadaag Bank directly contravenes Article 85, Clause 1 of the Somaliland Constitution, which clearly stipulates that the President, Vice President, and their spouses are prohibited from engaging in business during their tenure in office.
Therefore, as a party, we view the President’s apology — following public and party concern — as insufficient, given that he has led Somaliland’s legislative body for nearly fifteen years, which is ample proof that his actions cannot be excused as ignorance of the Constitution or its application.
Accordingly, we call on the legislative bodies to take appropriate, lawful measures concerning this constitutional breach, so as to safeguard the country from legal disorder.
Mustafe Abdi Iise “Shiine”
Spokesperson of Kulmiye Party.
