PM of Somalia “Somalia–Türkiye diplomatic relations are a symbol of sixty years of friendship, cooperation and partnership”
MOGADISHU, (Hornpost) –Somalia’s Prime Minister, Hamza Abdi Barre, has said that the long-standing diplomatic ties between Somalia and Türkiye represent six decades of friendship and cooperation.
The Prime Minister delivered the remarks in Mogadishu during an event marking the 102nd anniversary of the founding of the Republic of Türkiye, hosted at the Turkish Embassy in Somalia.
“Today is a day of shared joy with our Turkish brothers. It is a day we commemorate the courage and struggle led by Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, who laid the foundations of a modern republic that inspired the entire world,” PM Hamza said.
He highlighted that the relationship between Somalia and Türkiye is deep-rooted, historic and built on brotherhood. The Prime Minister recalled President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan’s historic visit to Mogadishu in August 2011, at a time when Somalia was suffering from famine and insecurity, describing it as a turning point in bilateral relations.
The Premier added that the anniversary provides an opportunity to enhance cooperation in trade, security, culture, education and people-to-people ties between the two nations.
Prime Minister Hamza thanked the Government of Türkiye for its continued support to Somalia, particularly in areas of security, defense, infrastructure development and social services.
The ceremony was also addressed by the Turkish Ambassador to Somalia, who thanked all Somali government officials that attended the commemoration. Speaking at the Republic Day celebration hosted at the Turkish Embassy in Mogadishu, the Ambassador emphasized the strong ties between the two nations and expressed appreciation for Somalia’s continued partnership and solidarity.
The Ambassador noted that Türkiye regards Somalia as a strategic friend in Africa, adding that Ankara will remain committed to supporting Somalia’s development, security and state-building efforts.
