
ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia (Horn post) South Sudan’s President Salva Kiir Mayardit and Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed have pledged to deepen bilateral relations following high-level talks in Addis Ababa, focusing on economic cooperation, regional stability and infrastructure development.
High-Level Talks on Economy and Security
Kiir arrived in Ethiopia on a state working visit at the invitation of Abiy, where he was received by the prime minister before the two leaders held comprehensive bilateral discussions.
According to South Sudan’s presidency, the talks covered key sectors including economic and political reforms, infrastructure, oil development, transportation, and peace and security.
Kiir also briefed Abiy on South Sudan’s current political, humanitarian and economic situation, outlining efforts to advance stability and national development.
Push to Accelerate Agreements
Both leaders reaffirmed longstanding ties between Juba and Addis Ababa and agreed to fast-track the implementation of existing agreements while expanding cooperation for mutual benefit.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to boosting economic integration and strengthening people-to-people relations.
Abiy Highlights Strategic Partnership
In a statement, Abiy said the visit underscores the “strong and enduring ties” between Ethiopia and South Sudan, expressing confidence that the discussions will further enhance bilateral cooperation.
“President Salva Kiir and I held a bilateral discussion on issues shaping our region and shared future,” Abiy said, noting a focus on investment, economic partnerships and regional developments.
