Hargeisa, Somaliland (Horn post) — Senior leaders of Somaliland’s ruling Kulmiye Party met with a visiting delegation from Norway’s Liberal Party of Norway in Hargeisa on Sunday, in talks focused on electoral processes and expanding political participation among women and youth.
The meeting took place at the party’s headquarters in Hargeisa, where Kulmiye Chairman Mohamed Kahin Ahmed led discussions alongside senior party officials, including First Deputy Chairman Abdicaziz Mohamed Samaale, Third Deputy Chairman Suleiman Yusuf Ali Koore, and Secretary-General Faisal Abdirahman Madar. Several members of parliament and party figures also attended.
The Norwegian delegation included senior officials such as Secretary-General Fredrik Carsten and Nertila Stringa.
Representatives from YEEL Development Organization also participated in the meeting. The organization collaborates with Norwegian partners and is currently implementing the WOMPOL project, which aims to enhance political participation among women and youth.
According to a statement from Kulmiye’s media office, the discussions focused extensively on Somaliland’s upcoming elections, with particular emphasis on increasing women’s representation in both parliamentary and local government institutions.
Participants reviewed challenges facing female candidates and explored strategies to improve inclusivity and voter engagement, as well as institutional support mechanisms to strengthen democratic processes.
The talks are part of broader cooperation efforts between Somaliland political stakeholders and international partners aimed at promoting democratic governance, capacity-building, and inclusive political participation.
Observers say such engagements reflect growing international interest in Somaliland’s electoral development and efforts to broaden representation across its political landscape.
