Berbera (Horn post) Abdirahman Mohamed Abdilahi (Irro), the President of Somaliland, on Tuesday officially inaugurated the Berbera Electricity Expansion Project, a strategic initiative aimed at strengthening energy supply and supporting economic growth in the port city of Berbera and the wider Sahil region.
The project comprises a 5WP photovoltaic (PV) solar power system and a 33KV electricity transmission line extending 11.2 kilometers, designed to provide affordable, reliable, and continuous electricity to meet Berbera’s growing demand as a key commercial hub.
During the inauguration, President Irro expressed gratitude to the United Arab Emirates for financing the electricity development projects. He described the UAE as a close and trusted partner of Somaliland, highlighting the strong cooperation and high-level collaboration between the two sides.
The President emphasized that reliable electricity is central to investment, industrial growth, social services, and job creation, noting that the project aligns with the government’s broader plan to enhance economic infrastructure in strategic cities and promote sustainable development.
