Somaliland President Hosts Senior U.S. Diplomat for Talks on Security, Investment and Strategic Cooperation.

HARGEISA, Somaliland — (Horn post) Somaliland President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi Irro on Wednesday received a delegation led by U.S. Deputy Chief of Mission and Acting Ambassador Justin Davis at the Presidential Palace in Hargeisa during an official visit focused on strengthening bilateral cooperation.

 

President Irro welcomed the delegation and expressed appreciation for the growing interest the United States has shown toward Somaliland and its role in the Horn of Africa.

 

According to a statement from the Presidency, discussions centered on expanding cooperation between Somaliland and the United States in areas including regional security, Red Sea maritime security, intelligence sharing, investment promotion, economic development, democracy and broader strategic interests shared by both sides.

The Somaliland president also thanked the United States for legislative initiatives and political discussions taking place within U.S. policymaking institutions that relate to Somaliland and its future engagement with Washington.

 

Irro reaffirmed that Somaliland remains a peaceful, democratic and stable partner that the United States can rely on in advancing regional stability and security objectives.

 

For his part, Davis commended Somaliland for its record of peace, stability and democratic governance, describing the territory as an increasingly important actor in the Horn of Africa.

 

The senior U.S. diplomat said Washington is prepared to deepen cooperation in key sectors, including security, defense, maritime security, intelligence sharing, trade, investment, infrastructure development, energy and mining.

 

Davis further emphasized that Somaliland’s progress, strategic location and growing regional role cannot be overlooked, highlighting its significance in efforts to promote security and economic development across the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea corridor.

 

The meeting reflects strengthening ties between Somaliland and the United States as both sides seek to expand diplomatic, security and economic cooperation based on mutual interests, respect and long-term strategic partnership.
