Hargeisa (Horn post) The President of the Republic of Somaliland, H.E. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi (Irro), on Tuesday convened a high-level national consultative meeting with the senior leadership of Somaliland’s three national political parties—WADDANI, KAAH, and KULMIYE.
At the outset, President Irro thanked the party leaders for their time and for positively responding to his invitation, describing the meeting as a reflection of collective national responsibility.
The President said the purpose of the meeting was to conduct a broad national consultation and information-sharing on the new phase the country has entered following the formal recognition of the Republic of Somaliland by the State of Israel.
The discussions focused extensively on the overall political, security, and diplomatic situation of Somaliland, with particular attention to the mixed regional reactions to Israel’s recognition.
The meeting also examined what Somaliland officials described as open hostility and calls for confrontation issued by Somalia and its allies against the sovereignty, existence, and statehood of the Republic of Somaliland.
President Irro briefed the party leaders on factual political, security, and diplomatic developments, stressing that Somaliland has entered a new and sensitive stage that requires political maturity, strategic foresight, and sustained national unity.
He made it clear that Somaliland harbors no aggressive intentions toward any party, but is fully prepared to defend its sovereignty, territorial integrity, and national existence.
The President Irro emphasized that Somaliland would intensify its diplomatic efforts to expand international recognition, building on the precedent set by Israel, which he described as a partner to whom Somaliland owes enduring gratitude, while noting that other countries are expected to follow.
President Irro also delivered a firm warning to the Government of Somalia and its allies, stating that Somaliland will never accept threats or aggression and is fully ready to defend its land, people, sovereignty, and statehood. He further underlined that the international community should hold Somalia and its allies responsible for any negative consequences arising from escalation.
In his concluding remarks, the President called on the national political parties to play an active role in fostering a stable political environment, countering inflammatory rhetoric, preventing social division, and resisting incitement and destabilization.
For their part, the senior leadership of the three national parties warmly welcomed the President’s initiative, praising what they described as a historic national achievement realized under his leadership after 34 years.
The parties demonstrated political responsibility, maturity, and unity, affirming their full support for the President and his government, particularly during the current sensitive phase.
The party leaders also put forward key recommendations, including strengthening internal unity, enhancing public awareness, delivering a unifying national message that builds confidence and hope among Somalilanders, and standing together in defense of the Republic of Somaliland.
