Jerusalem (Horn post) Mohamed Haji, Somaliland’s Ambassador to Israel, has unveiled the full diplomatic agenda surrounding the historic state visit of Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi Irro, describing the trip as one of the most significant international engagements ever undertaken by the Republic of Somaliland.
According to Ambassador Mohamed Haji, President Irro officially arrived in Israel to begin a five-day state visit that marks a major milestone in Somaliland’s expanding foreign relations strategy. During the visit, the Somaliland leader is scheduled to receive an official state welcome from Israeli President Isaac Herzog, followed by formal bilateral discussions between both heads of state.
Following the presidential meeting, both leaders are expected to participate in a high-level state luncheon and jointly address international media during an official press conference outlining the future direction of relations between Somaliland and Israel.
The ambassador further disclosed that President Irro will hold a series of strategic meetings with some of Israel’s most senior government officials, including the Israeli Prime Minister, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of Defense, Chief of the Israeli Defense Forces, Minister of Finance, Minister of Economy and the Governor of Israel’s Central Bank.
In addition to the political meetings, President Irro is also expected to engage with more than 200 leading Israeli business executives and investors as Somaliland seeks to attract foreign investment and deepen economic cooperation with Israel in sectors including trade, technology and infrastructure development.
As part of the visit, the Somaliland delegation will tour major Israeli technology institutions and several historic sites considered important to strengthening broader diplomatic and cultural ties between both sides.
Meanwhile, Ambassador Mohamed Haji also sharply criticized recent comments made by Hassan Sheikh Mohamud, President of Somalia.
The Somaliland envoy described remarks attributed to Hassan Sheikh regarding the possibility of foreign-backed efforts against Somaliland as “reckless and dangerous,” warning that any attempt to involve external powers in actions aimed at undermining Somaliland could escalate tensions and create serious regional instability.
The latest developments come as Somaliland continues intensifying efforts to expand its international diplomatic footprint, with the Israel visit increasingly being viewed as a major turning point in Somaliland’s broader foreign policy ambitions and international positioning on the global stage.
