Somaliland Interior Minister Says May 18 Celebrations Ended Peacefully Nationwide.

According to the Interior Minister, Somaliland’s overall security situation remains stable.

HARGEISA, Somaliland (Horn post)— Minister of Interior and National Security of the Republic of Somaliland Abdalle Mohamed Arab announced that nationwide celebrations marking Somaliland’s May 18 National Day concluded peacefully, with no major security incidents reported across the country.

 

The statement was delivered during the 63rd session of the Council of Ministers, chaired by Somaliland President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi Irro at the Presidential Palace in Hargeisa.

 

According to the Interior Minister, Somaliland’s overall security situation remains stable, with authorities maintaining calm and order throughout the country during the annual independence anniversary celebrations.

 

Minister of Interior and National Security of the Republic of Somaliland Abdalle Mohamed Arab said the May 18 events, which commemorate Somaliland’s declaration of restored independence in 1991, were held successfully across all regions and districts in a peaceful and organized manner.

 

The minister praised Somaliland’s security forces, national security institutions, regional and district administrations, and the public for their role in ensuring the smooth conduct of the celebrations.

 

Minister Abdale added that no significant security threats, unrest, or disturbances were recorded during the commemorations, highlighting what officials described as strong cooperation between citizens and security agencies.

 

May 18 anniversary is one of the most significant national events in Somaliland, drawing large public gatherings, patriotic ceremonies, and official celebrations each year.
