During the session, the House received a comprehensive report from the Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources of the Republic of Somaliland, Mr. Ali Jama Farah (Bured), who was accompanied by the Deputy Minister of the Ministry, Mr. Sharmarke Abdi Muse.
In his presentation, Minister Bured briefed lawmakers on the ministry’s overall performance, ongoing programs, and strategic priorities, with a particular focus on the development of the fisheries sector and the sustainable utilization of Somaliland’s marine resources. The minister further outlined efforts to enhance institutional capacity, develop fisheries infrastructure, and attract domestic and foreign investment into the marine economy. Addressing concerns over illegal, unreported, and unregulated fishing, he noted that the ministry is working to strengthen monitoring mechanisms and cooperation with relevant security and regulatory bodies.
Members of the House of Representatives engaged both the minister and his deputy in discussions, raising questions related to policy implementation, sector governance, and the contribution of fisheries and marine resources to national economic growth.
