Somaliland Environment Officials and Security Forces Rescue Illegally Detained Cheetah.

Hargeisa (Horn post) Officials from the Ministry of Environment in Gabiley Region, in coordination with regional security forces, have rescued a cheetah that was being illegally held in Kidiga village, located in Gabiley Region.

The cheetah had reportedly been kept in captivity by a local resident for some time in violation of wildlife protection laws. Following the operation, the animal was transferred to the Geed-Deeble Wildlife Care and Rehabilitation Center, where it is currently receiving medical care and protection in line with established wildlife conservation procedures.

The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change of Somaliland has called on all citizens to actively participate in the protection and preservation of wildlife. The ministry noted that cheetahs are among endangered wild animals facing the risk of extinction, stressing that their conservation is a shared national responsibility.

The successful rescue highlights ongoing efforts by Somaliland authorities to combat illegal wildlife detention and strengthen environmental protection across the country.
