Jerusalem (Horn Post) An official delegation from the Republic of Somaliland is set to arrive in Israel on Sunday, according to a statement released Thursday by the non-governmental organization Sharaka. The visit follows Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar’s recent historic trip to Somaliland and Israel’s formal recognition of Somaliland as a sovereign state.
Sharaka, which is facilitating the six-day visit, described the trip as a significant milestone in the development of relations between Israel and Somaliland. The organization is a non-profit, apolitical initiative founded by social entrepreneurs from the Arab world and Israel, with offices in Israel, Bahrain, and Morocco, and a network of advisers and volunteers across the Arab and Muslim world, as well as the United States and Europe.
During the visit, the Somaliland delegation will receive briefings on the history of the Jewish people and the State of Israel, Israeli government institutions, civil infrastructure, academic systems, and technological innovation. The program will also place strong emphasis on Holocaust education and efforts to combat antisemitism.
According to Sharaka, the delegation’s itinerary includes visits to Yad Vashem, the Old City of Jerusalem, the Gaza border area—including the site of the Nova attack—and the Bedouin city of Rahat.
The visit comes in the wake of Israel’s official recognition of Somaliland, a move Sharaka described as a “significant historical milestone in relations between the countries.”
Sharaka CEO Noam Meirov said the organization is “proud to be taking part in reshaping the region by strengthening moderate elements in their struggle against extremist forces,” underscoring what he described as the broader regional importance of the engagement.
The delegation’s visit is expected to further consolidate emerging ties between Israel and Somaliland following the landmark recognition announcement.
