Somaliland Concludes Domestic Military Training as Young Women Join Ranks of Newly Commissioned Officers.

Hargeisa (Horn Post) — Somaliland has completed a domestically conducted military training program for officers of the Somaliland National Army, with officials highlighting the graduation of a significant number of young women alongside their male counterparts.

The closing ceremony was presided over by the Deputy Chief of Staff of the Somaliland National Army, Ahmed Hassan Farah, accompanied by senior commanders from the Army’s General Command. The officers completed their training at the Abdullahi Askar Officers’ Academy, where the program was delivered entirely within the country.

According to military authorities, the graduating officers underwent intensive instruction in military sciences, leadership, command responsibilities, and operational skills required for various duties within the National Army. Officials said the training aimed to build professionalism, discipline, and practical competence in line with national defense needs.

Notably, the graduating cohort included a large number of young female officers, reflecting Somaliland’s growing emphasis on inclusive participation within its armed forces. Military officials said the women completed the same curriculum and standards as their male peers.

Addressing the ceremony, Deputy Chief of Staff Ahmed Hassan Farah urged the newly commissioned officers to serve the nation with integrity, efficiency, and commitment, and to set an example of strong leadership. He added that the graduates would contribute to strengthening the quality, capability, and readiness of the Somaliland armed forces.

The training forms part of broader efforts by Somaliland to enhance the skills, knowledge, and institutional capacity of its National Army, with the objective of reinforcing national defense and internal security.
