HARGEISA/BURAO, Somaliland (Horn post) The Office of the Auditor General of the Republic of Somaliland has announced the detention of several officials from the Burao Local Government, citing allegations of misappropriation of public funds and abuse of office.
In a statement published on the official Facebook page of the Office of the Auditor General, Auditor General Muse Yusuf Osman (Muse Idiga) confirmed that the suspects were transferred to Burao Central Prison following an investigation conducted by the national audit authority.
According to the statement, the detained officials include:
- Amiin Abdillahi Yasin – Executive Secretary, Burao Local Government
- Diriye Sugal Roble – Former Head of Land Allocation
- Abdillahi Muuse Mohamed – Accountant, Burao Local Government
- Mohamed Haji Muse Shire – Surveyor
- Farah Muuse Saed – Surveyor
- Abdiasis Jama Ismail – Head of Procurement, Burao Local Government
- Mohamed Ali Hirsi – Surveyor
The Auditor General’s Office stated that all the individuals listed are accused of embezzlement of public assets, adding that legal procedures are ongoing in accordance with Somaliland law.
This marks the first known case of multiple municipal officials being detained on corruption-related charges since President Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi (Irro) assumed office, signaling a renewed focus on accountability and financial oversight within public institutions.
No official response has yet been issued by the Burao Municipality regarding the arrests.
