Dakar, Senegal (Horn post) President Bassirou Diomaye Faye has awarded $135,000 to all members of the Senegal national football team following their recent victory in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

In a special ceremony, President Faye also presented the Hero of Senegal medal to star player Sadio Mane, recognizing his leadership and exemplary conduct during the tournament. Mane earned the honor after calmly managing a tense situation on the pitch, when the team threatened to walk off in protest of a referee decision.

Senegal secured their second AFCON title with a commanding performance, defeating host nation Morocco in the final. The victory marks a historic moment for Senegalese football, celebrated nationwide by fans and officials alike.

President Faye praised the team’s unity, discipline, and dedication, saying their triumph inspires a new generation of Senegalese athletes and strengthens the country’s standing in African football.
