ADDIS ABABA (Horn Post) — Saudi Arabia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, on Monday began an official visit to Ethiopia aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and enhancing cooperation on regional and global issues.
Prince Faisal arrived in Addis Ababa earlier today, where he was received at Bole International Airport by Ethiopia’s Director General of the National Intelligence and Security Service (NISS), Redwan Hussein. The visit marks a significant diplomatic engagement between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Ethiopia.
As part of the visit, Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali held high-level talks with the Saudi foreign minister, focusing on a wide range of bilateral and multilateral matters. Following the meeting, Prime Minister Abiy issued a statement highlighting the outcomes of the discussions.
“Today we have received Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister, Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, and had a successful discussion on bilateral and multilateral issues,” Prime Minister Abiy said.
He added that the talks were centered on expanding the longstanding relationship between Ethiopia and Saudi Arabia, as well as strengthening cooperation on international and global issues of mutual concern.
“Our discussion was focused on broadening the long-lasting relationship between our two countries and strengthening our cooperation on international and global issues,” the Ethiopian leader noted.
In a separate statement, Prime Minister Abiy reiterated that the meeting addressed cooperation across key sectors and enhanced coordination on regional and global matters.
“Received His Highness Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, today for productive discussions on a broad range of bilateral and multilateral issues. Our talks focused on strengthening the longstanding ties between our two countries, expanding cooperation across key sectors, and enhancing coordination on regional and global matters of mutual interest,” the statement said.
The visit comes amid growing diplomatic engagement between Ethiopia and Gulf countries, particularly in areas of trade, investment, labor cooperation, regional security, and development partnerships. Saudi Arabia remains one of Ethiopia’s key partners in the Middle East, with longstanding economic and political ties.
Prince Faisal bin Farhan is expected to hold further meetings with senior Ethiopian officials during his stay, as part of efforts to deepen diplomatic and strategic cooperation between Addis Ababa and Riyadh.
