Over 6,000 Individuals Disarmed and Reintegrated in Eastern Regions, Says Somaliland President Addressing to Burao Citizens

Burao, Togdheer Region – (Hornpost) The President of the Republic of Somaliland, H.E. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdilahi (Cirro), together with an accompanying high-level delegation, arrived in Burao, the regional capital of Togdheer, as part of his official working tour of the eastern regions of the country.

Upon arrival, the President was accorded a historic and dignified welcome by the people of Togdheer. Regional leaders, district officials, and thousands of citizens—carrying and waving the national flag of the Republic of Somaliland—lined the streets from the outskirts of Qoyta to the city center, expressing their joy and solidarity.

At a public gathering held in front of the Presidential Palace in Burao, speeches were delivered by senior officials, including the Director General of the Presidency, Mr. Muniir Ahmed Egal, the Governor of Togdheer, Mr. Mahmoud Ali Saleebaan (Ramaax), and the Minister of Interior and National Security, Mr. Abdalle Mohamed Carab, who all thanked the people of Burao for their remarkable reception of the Head of State.

In his address, President Cirro extended his heartfelt appreciation to the people of Burao for their warm and historic welcome. He commended their reputation for hospitality and respect towards the nation’s leadership.

The President further outlined the key achievements of his administration since assuming office, stressing that the government’s foremost priorities are:

Safeguarding national unity and cohesion,

Preserving peace and stability,

Ensuring security across the country, and

Upholding the rule of law.

President Cirro particularly highlighted the successful stabilization of the eastern regions, including the disarmament and reintegration of more than 6,000 individuals and their weapons—an accomplishment achieved solely through national efforts, without external assistance. He described this as a major milestone for the nation.

Concluding his remarks, the President issued a directive to all regional governors, education officials, and school administrators nationwide, prohibiting the mobilization of school children to participate in street receptions or welcoming ceremonies for visiting leaders. He emphasized that students must remain focused on their education.
