International Cooperation
HARGEISA/Jerusalem | (Horn post) Senior officials from the Ministry of Water Resources of the Republic of Somaliland have arrived in Israel, where they will undergo an advanced-level training program for an extended period.
Eynat Shlein, Head of MASHAV and Deputy Director General at the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs, has formally welcomed participants to the first specialized training course tailored for the Somaliland National Water Agency.
The course, titled “National Water Resources Planning and Management,” is designed to strengthen institutional and technical capacity within Somaliland’s water sector. Key focus areas include:
- Building the capacity of national water institutions in Somaliland
- Enhancing technical skills in water planning and resource management
- Deepening bilateral cooperation in development and capacity building
Organizers said the program forms part of broader international efforts aligned with United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 6 (SDG 6), which seeks to ensure the availability and sustainable management of clean water and sanitation for all.
Officials described the initiative as a significant step toward improving Somaliland’s water infrastructure and governance, while also reinforcing international collaboration in natural resource management and sustainable development.
On the Somaliland side, the delegation is led by Aadan Cabdalle, Director General at the Ministry responsible for water resources.
The program represents the first formal cooperation of its kind between Israel and Somaliland, following Israel’s December 2025 announcement regarding its recognition of Somaliland, according to Somaliland officials.
