WASHINGTON / AMMAN — The U.S. Central Command (CENTCOM) said it successfully intercepted and destroyed all ballistic missiles launched by Iran in what it described as a surprise attack targeting U.S. forces in the Middle East, with no missiles reaching their intended targets.
The statement came minutes after multiple reports emerged that several missiles had been launched from Iranian territory toward Jordan, raising regional security concerns.
CENTCOM Confirms Missile Interceptions
In an official statement, CENTCOM said the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) launched multiple ballistic missiles in a sudden attack against U.S. military forces stationed in the Middle East.
“The Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps launched multiple ballistic missiles in a surprise attack against U.S. forces in the Middle East,” CENTCOM said.
The U.S. military added that all incoming missiles were successfully intercepted and destroyed, and that none reached their intended targets.
CENTCOM did not immediately disclose the exact locations targeted or report any casualties or damage.
Iranian Media Reports Missiles Fired Toward Jordan
Iranian media outlets with close ties to military sources also reported that missiles had been launched toward Jordan.
The Fars News Agency, which is affiliated with the IRGC, cited Arab sources claiming explosions were heard near a military installation hosting U.S. forces in Jordan following the missile attack.
Fars also reported that U.S.-operated Patriot air defense systems were activated inside Jordan during the incident.
Those claims have not been independently verified.
Missile Sightings Reported Across Central Iran
Meanwhile, the Telegram channel Vahid Online shared multiple eyewitness reports claiming missiles launched from Iran were visible in the skies over several central Iranian cities, including:
- Khomeyn
- Nahavand
- Boroujerd
The reported sightings coincided with the timing of the missile launches, although Iranian authorities have not officially commented on those reports.
Regional Tensions Remain High
The reported missile attack comes amid heightened tensions between Iran and the United States, with regional air defense systems remaining on high alert.
Officials have not released further operational details, and independent verification of several claims made by Iranian media remains unavailable.
