MOGADISHU, Somalia (Horn Post) — Djibouti has reaffirmed its commitment to regional security and stability by strengthening cooperation with the African Union Support and Stabilization Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) and deepening defense coordination with Somalia’s Federal Government as the country navigates a critical political transition.
The renewed engagement was highlighted during a meeting between Djibouti’s newly appointed Ambassador to Somalia, H.E. Osman Doubad, and senior AUSSOM officials, where both sides discussed regional security, stabilization efforts, and continued support for Somalia’s state-building process.
The discussions focused on enhancing cooperation in the fight against al-Shabab, strengthening Somalia’s security institutions, and promoting regional stability amid ongoing constitutional and political developments.
In a separate high-level meeting, Ambassador Osman Doubad received Somalia’s Minister of Defence, H.E. Ahmed Moallim Fiqi, at the Embassy of Djibouti in Mogadishu. The two officials reviewed the latest security developments in Somalia and reaffirmed their commitment to continued cooperation and close coordination in support of peace, security, and long-term stability.
The meeting underscored the longstanding security partnership between Djibouti and Somalia, with both sides emphasizing the importance of maintaining joint efforts against terrorism and supporting Somalia’s stabilization agenda.
Djibouti remains one of the principal troop-contributing countries to AUSSOM, playing a central role in African Union-led peace and stabilization operations aimed at combating al-Shabab and supporting Somalia’s security transition.
The latest diplomatic and security engagements come as Somalia continues to face major political challenges, including debates over constitutional reforms, electoral arrangements, and efforts to build broader political consensus. Regional partners have stressed that sustained security cooperation and political dialogue are essential to ensuring lasting peace across the Horn of Africa.
