
ADDIS ABABA — (Horn Post) Ethiopia and Russia have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral ties following high-level meetings held Tuesday in Addis Ababa between Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and Ethiopia’s senior leadership.
Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed Ali met with Lavrov and the visiting Russian delegation, describing the discussions as productive and focused on expanding cooperation between the two countries.
“It was a pleasure to meet with Mr. Sergey Lavrov, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, and his delegation this evening, during which our discussions focused on bilateral relations and exploring new opportunities for cooperation,” Abiy said in a statement.
Earlier, the Russian Foreign Ministry confirmed that Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov held talks with Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed during his official visit to Ethiopia.
“Russia’s Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov holds a meeting with Prime Minister of Ethiopia Abiy Ahmed Ali. Addis Ababa, July 7. ,” the ministry said in a post on social media.
Before Lavrov’s meeting with the Ethiopian prime minister, Ethiopia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that Foreign Minister Gedion Timothewos and Lavrov had held official bilateral talks.
The discussions focused on expanding political dialogue, strengthening economic and trade cooperation, increasing investment opportunities, and enhancing collaboration in multilateral forums. The two sides also exchanged views on regional and international issues of mutual interest.
Lavrov’s visit highlights the growing strategic partnership between Ethiopia and Russia as both countries seek to deepen cooperation in diplomacy, trade, security, energy, education, and other key sectors amid evolving geopolitical dynamics.
