Israel and Somaliland Agree to Expand Energy, Water and Infrastructure Cooperation Following High-Level Talks.
JERUSALEM, Israel (Horn post) The President of the Republic of Somaliland, Abdirahman Mohamed Abdullahi Irro, and his delegation held high-level talks with Israel’s Minister of Energy and Infrastructure as both sides moved to deepen bilateral cooperation in the critical sectors of energy, water and infrastructure development.
The meeting brought together senior officials from both governments, including Somaliland’s Minister of Energy and Water Development, alongside directors of Israeli government companies specializing in energy production, water management and infrastructure development.
Following the meeting, the Israeli Minister of Energy and Infrastructure announced that the two sides had reached an agreement to advance cooperation between Israel and Somaliland in strategic sectors aimed at accelerating Somaliland’s economic growth and improving the country’s water and infrastructure systems.
In a statement released after the discussions, the Israeli minister described relations with Israel as an opportunity for partnership and development, emphasizing that both governments had agreed to strengthen collaboration in the fields of energy production, water management and modern infrastructure development.
The minister said the partnership is expected to contribute directly to Somaliland’s long-term development agenda, particularly through improving water infrastructure and expanding access to modern energy systems that are essential for economic growth.
Highlighting Israel’s global reputation in technological innovation, the minister said Israel remains committed to supporting countries with which it maintains strategic partnerships by sharing expertise in advanced technology, innovation and sustainable infrastructure solutions.
“This is my policy — using Israel’s energy sector to build bridges and strengthen our position in the world,” the minister said, underscoring Israel’s broader diplomatic strategy of leveraging technology and infrastructure partnerships to expand international cooperation.
The meeting represents another significant step in the rapidly deepening relationship between Somaliland and Israel, as both sides continue exploring strategic partnerships in diplomacy, trade, investment, infrastructure and technological development.
The latest discussions come amid Somaliland’s ongoing historic diplomatic visit to Israel, where multiple high-level meetings are laying the foundation for what observers see as a potentially transformative partnership between the two sides.
