HARGEISA, Somaliland (Horn post) Somaliland’s Ministry of Education and Science and the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening cooperation in education for refugees and asylum seekers living in Somaliland.
The agreement was formally signed by Somaliland Minister of Education and Science Prof. Ismail Duale Yusuf and senior UNHCR officials during a ceremony held in Hargeisa.
The MoU seeks to expand access to quality education and enhance collaboration between the two sides to support refugee and asylum-seeking children and youth residing in Somaliland.
Under the agreement, the Ministry of Education and Science and UNHCR will work together to improve educational opportunities, promote inclusion, and strengthen support systems for vulnerable learners within refugee communities.
Officials said the partnership reflects a shared commitment to ensuring that all children, regardless of their displacement status, have access to quality education and opportunities for personal development.
The agreement marks another step in Somaliland’s efforts to work with international partners to improve educational outcomes and expand access to learning for refugees and asylum seekers across the country.
