
Berbera, Somaliland, (Horn post) Minister of Finance and Economic Development of the Republic of Somaliland, H.E Abdillahi Hassan Adan, led a high-level government delegation on a working visit to Berbera on Wednesday to assess key economic infrastructure projects, including Berbera Port, the Berbera Free Zone and the World Bank-funded Berbera Power Expansion Project.

The delegation included senior officials from the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development, the Ministry of Energy and Minerals, and the World Bank’s representative in Somaliland.
Director General of Berbera Customs Ahmed Abdirahman Harir welcomed the Minister’s delegation upon their arrival. The visit was also attended by Berbera Mayor Abdishakur Cidin and Sahil Regional Governor Abdiqani Ateye.
The visit forms part of ongoing government efforts to monitor and evaluate strategic economic development projects aimed at strengthening trade, investment and economic growth.
During the tour, the delegation inspected operations at Berbera Port and the Berbera Free Zone, where officials received briefings on ongoing activities, future expansion plans and the facilities’ role in boosting Somaliland’s trade competitiveness and attracting foreign investment.
Port and Free Zone authorities provided detailed updates on operational performance, customs services, infrastructure development and commercial activities. The delegation also toured various sections of the port, customs facilities and the Free Zone to assess service delivery and operational efficiency.
The officials later visited sites under the Berbera Power Expansion Project, which is financed by the World Bank and implemented by the Ministry of Energy and Minerals. The delegation also inspected Berbera Electricity Company’s power generation facilities and received updates from engineers and energy sector officials on progress and service delivery.
Government officials said the visit highlights the strong partnership between the Republic of Somaliland and the World Bank in advancing critical infrastructure and essential public services. Both sides emphasized the importance of continued collaboration to accelerate development projects and maximize the impact of investments supporting economic growth and social development.
The projects are considered central to Somaliland’s national development strategy, contributing to economic expansion, job creation, increased investment opportunities and sustainable long-term growth.
