TEHRAN, Iran (Reuters/AP/Horn post) — A Qatari delegation has arrived in Tehran in coordination with the United States as diplomatic efforts intensify to ease tensions involving Iran, according to sources cited by Reuters.
The sources said the visit is aimed at supporting negotiations intended to end the ongoing conflict involving Iran and help resolve broader regional disputes.
Qatar has previously played a key mediating role in regional crises, including negotiations related to the Gaza conflict and other international disputes. However, Doha had largely avoided direct mediation since the escalation of tensions involving the United States, Israel and Iran.
During the recent confrontation, Qatar was also reportedly targeted by Iranian missile and drone attacks linked to the wider regional conflict.
Meanwhile, Pakistan’s military chief Asim Munir arrived in Tehran on Friday, according to Pakistani state media.
The Associated Press, citing security sources, reported that Munir is expected to hold talks with Iranian officials focused on ongoing Iran-U.S. negotiations, regional peace and stability, and broader strategic interests shared by the two countries.
Munir visited Tehran about 40 days ago, where he reportedly met with senior Iranian officials including Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf and members involved in discussions linked to Iran-U.S. diplomacy.
Pakistan’s interior minister has also traveled to Tehran for the second time this week for separate meetings with Iranian authorities, signaling intensified diplomatic coordination between Islamabad and Tehran amid growing regional uncertainty.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said Washington is closely monitoring the outcome of the negotiations and awaiting further developments from the talks.
