BORAMA, Somaliland (Horn post) Minister of Investment and Industrial Development of the Republic of Somaliland HE Saed Mohamed Burale has called on regional authorities in Awdal to fast-track the preparation of a designated industrial zone, in a move aimed at strengthening economic development and attracting both local and foreign investment.
The minister made the remarks during a high-level meeting held in Borama on April 18, 2026, with the Governor of Awdal Abdirashid Hassan Matan, the Mayor of Borama Mohamoud Sheikh Ibrahim, and the Economic Advisor to the President, Dr. Abdirahman Du’ale Bayle.
According to officials, the meeting focused on strategic plans to establish a structured industrial area in the region that would support the development of manufacturing and production-based industries. The initiative is expected to play a key role in boosting regional economic activity and creating employment opportunities.
Discussions also centered on enhancing Awdal’s investment climate, identifying opportunities to attract investors, and maximizing the use of the region’s natural resources for sustainable development.
The minister emphasized that industrial zone development is part of the government’s broader strategy to expand Somaliland’s economic infrastructure and promote regional balance in investment distribution.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the participants agreed to develop a clear and actionable roadmap to accelerate the establishment of the industrial zone, ensuring coordination between national and regional authorities.
Officials said the planned industrial zone is expected to serve as a catalyst for long-term economic transformation in Awdal, particularly in boosting trade, manufacturing, and job creation.
