Addis Ababa – Horn Post | Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and Giorgia Meloni today delivered keynote addresses at the opening of the Second Italy–Africa Summit, jointly hosted by Ethiopia and Italy in Addis Ababa.
The summit, which brings together senior government officials and stakeholders, focuses on strengthening cooperation between Italy and African countries, with particular emphasis on development-oriented partnerships and long-term economic engagement.
In his opening remarks, Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed said the summit represents a milestone in relations between Italy and Africa, noting that it goes beyond diplomacy to reflect a shared vision for sustainable growth and mutual prosperity.
“This gathering symbolizes the deepening partnership between Italy and African nations, grounded in mutual respect, shared responsibility, and a common vision for sustainable development,” Prime Minister Abiy said.
He highlighted priority areas for cooperation, including trade and investment, energy, infrastructure development, agriculture, and innovation, adding that Italy’s engagement with Africa continues to expand in scope and strategic importance.
Addressing the summit, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni emphasized Italy’s commitment to strengthening ties with African partners through dialogue, investment, and development cooperation. She reaffirmed Rome’s intention to work closely with African governments to promote economic growth, stability, and mutually beneficial partnerships.
Officials said the summit provides a platform for aligning Italy’s Africa-focused initiatives with the development priorities of African countries, while reinforcing Ethiopia’s role as a diplomatic hub for continental and international engagement.
The Second Italy–Africa Summit is expected to continue with panel discussions and bilateral meetings aimed at advancing cooperation between Italy and African states.
