UK PM Keir Starmer Faces Resignations and Calls to Step Down Amid Rising Pressure.

LONDON (Horn post) UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer is facing mounting pressure as senior staff resign and political leaders publicly call for his resignation.

Tim Allan, Starmer’s communications director, resigned a day after the Prime Minister’s chief of staff, Morgan McSweeney, stepped down. In a statement, Allan said, “I have decided to resign to allow a new team to be built at Number 10. I wish the Prime Minister and his team every success.”

McSweeney, who resigned on Sunday, acknowledged his full responsibility for advising the Prime Minister to appoint Peter Mandelson as UK Ambassador to the United States in 2024.

The calls for Starmer to step down have intensified, with Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar stating, “The chaos and distraction must end, and leadership at Downing Street must change.”

Pressure is also coming from across the aisle. Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch described Starmer’s position as “untenable,” criticizing his recent decisions as “a mistake after another mistake.”

Several other Number 10 staff members have resigned, while the SNP Westminster leader Stephen Flynn joined calls for Starmer’s resignation. In a press statement, Flynn said the government “is in disarray, entirely distracted from pressing national issues.” He added that Starmer had “failed to deliver the change promised to voters” and that public confidence in his leadership had eroded. Flynn concluded, “This endless chaos cannot continue. Keir Starmer must do the right thing and step down.”

The resignations and growing criticism highlight a deepening crisis within the UK government, raising questions about Starmer’s ability to maintain authority and deliver on his party’s promises.
