RADFAN, Lahj Governorate, South Yemen (Horn post) — Thousands of people gathered on Tuesday in the Radfan district of Lahj Governorate for a large public demonstration expressing support for the Southern Transitional Council (STC) and calls for the restoration of an independent South Arabian state.
According to local sources, the rally drew participants from across Lahj and neighboring southern governorates. Demonstrators carried flags associated with the former South Yemen and banners endorsing the STC’s political agenda, while chanting slogans advocating self-determination and southern sovereignty.
Organizers described the demonstration as a peaceful expression of popular will, stating that it reflected widespread public backing for the STC amid ongoing political and economic challenges in the country. Speakers at the rally emphasized what they described as the historical and political legitimacy of southern demands, calling for renewed international engagement on the southern issue.
The Southern Transitional Council, which has positioned itself as the main representative of southern political aspirations, has repeatedly called for a political process that recognizes the right of southerners to decide their future. The STC maintains influence over large parts of southern Yemen, including Aden, and plays a central role within the internationally backed Presidential Leadership Council.
The demonstration in Radfan comes at a time of continued uncertainty over Yemen’s political trajectory, as negotiations to end the prolonged conflict remain fragile. Analysts note that such mass rallies are often used by southern actors to signal public support and strengthen their negotiating position in any future settlement.
No security incidents were reported during the event, and local authorities said the gathering concluded peacefully.
