BERBERA (Horn post) The Somaliland Football Championship concluded on Saturday in the coastal city of Berbera, with the Hargeisa Municipality football team winning the tournament after defeating the Somaliland National Army team, Gaashaan, in the final match.

 

The decisive match was played at Abdalle Stadium in Berbera, where the Hargeisa Municipality side secured victory with a late goal, clinching the championship trophy.

The tournament has been hosted in Berbera in recent weeks and brought together leading football teams from across Somaliland.

President Irro Congratulates Finalists as Somaliland Football Championship Concludes:

President of the Republic of Somaliland, Dr. Abdirahman Mohamed Abdillahi (Irro), who is currently on an official visit to the United Arab Emirates, followed the final match remotely. The President sent congratulatory messages to both finalists, praising their performance and sportsmanship.

 

In a statement issued from Dubai, President Irro said he was closely watching the highly anticipated final between Gaashaan, representing the Somaliland National Army, and the Hargeisa Municipality team. He expressed appreciation for the competitive spirit shown by both sides.

 

“I extend my congratulations to both teams as they compete in the final of the Somaliland Championship in Berbera,” the President said, noting his hope that the match would reflect fair play, mutual respect, and unity.

 

President Irro highlighted the broader role of sports in society, stating that football contributes to social cohesion, national unity, youth development, and public health.
