Hargeisa (Horn post) The President of the Republic of Somaliland on Tuesday inaugurated two new production facilities owned and operated by the Somaliland National Army, marking a notable step toward institutional self-reliance and improved troop welfare.
The newly launched facilities include a modern military uniform factory and a dedicated bakery designed to supply the armed forces. Officials said the initiative aims to strengthen institutional capacity, reduce dependence on external suppliers, and enhance the living and working conditions of Somaliland’s soldiers.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Brigadier General Nimaan Gahnuug highlighted the importance of local production for the military. He noted that manufacturing standardized uniforms and boots domestically would improve morale, reinforce discipline, and strengthen a unified national military identity.
“The ability to produce professional military uniforms within the country is a strategic achievement that supports both operational efficiency and national pride,” Brig. Gen. Gahnug said.
The army-owned bakery, the first of its kind in Somaliland, is expected to provide a consistent and reliable supply of bread to military personnel. Authorities described it as a key investment in troop welfare, ensuring regular access to essential food supplies. Plans are also underway to establish similar bakeries at major military bases across the country.
Officials said the launch of the two facilities reflects Somaliland’s broader efforts to build a resilient, self-sustaining, and professionally equipped national defense sector, aligned with long-term state-building and security objectives.
